What we collect
When you create an account we store your name, email address, and — if you choose to add it — your GHIN number. We do not ask for your phone number. When you play, we store what you'd expect a scorekeeping app to store: games, scores, teams, side-game results, and any photos or messages you post to an event. Organizers can also keep a private directory of golfers (name, handicap index, home club, email) to make setting up games faster.
Contacts, if you ask
If you use the contacts import, we read only the contacts you explicitly pick — never your whole address book — and save just the name and email of the people you choose into your own directory. We never message anyone without you.
Handicap lookups
When you search for a golfer's handicap, we query public and official handicap sources (the USGA's GHIN network and the Chicago District Golf Association's public lookup) using the name, state, or GHIN number you type. Results (index, club, year-low) are cached briefly so repeat searches are fast.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not share your information with anyone except the service providers below, and the other participants in events you join (your name and scores are visible to your playing group — that's the point of a leaderboard).
Notifications: The Cut does not send text messages and does not collect phone numbers. Event alerts — invitations, tee times, live scoring updates — arrive as push notifications if you have the app installed, and by email otherwise. Push notifications are controlled entirely by you in your phone's notification settings and can be turned off at any time. If a phone number was saved historically, it is never used for marketing and never shared.
Service providers
The Cut runs on Supabase (database and authentication) and Netlify (hosting). Payments for Pro are handled entirely by Stripe or Apple — we never see or store card numbers. If you sign in with Google or Apple, they confirm your identity to us; we receive only your name and email.
Your data, your call
You can edit your profile and directory at any time, and delete your account from Settings inside the app. Events you participated in keep their scores (other people's history includes shared rounds), but your account and personal details are deleted.
Kids
The Cut is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
